Highlights of our Years
We would like to share a few highlights, reflecting our pride in past member and council accomplishments.
Our First Major Project
Our first major project was the construction of Butler Center in Truro providing a much needed sheltered workshop and training center for the Intellectually Disabled. As mentioned on our home page, this project was a huge success.
Powder Puff Derby
Our Council gained National recognition for one of our later projects called Powder Puff Derby. This was an annual highly popular Horse Race at the Truro Raceway featuring licensed female drivers from the Maritimes. Tickets on this race were sold throughout the Maritimes on a chance to win a share of the proceeds. This continued for a number of years but ended with the advent of the government sponsored Lotto. The profits from this enabled us to take on the purchase and operation of a wheelchair bus with a lift that was provided for the handicapped and was put to use in 1972.
Terry Fox Run
For several years we were involved in the annual Terry Fox Run. We still support Cancer Society but had to give up the operation of the race.
Junior Golf
In the past we were sponsors for Junior Golf and had winners at Disneyland Florida.
